MG MGB Technical - MGB Heater Spindle Thread Size

Hi all from a very unusually cold, mid-November in Australia,

Can some very knowledgeable person, advise me, of what is the thread pattern/size of an MGB heater/demister control mechanisms knob spindle please?

I seems to be a very fine thread like 7/16" BSP or similar? They are extremely difficult to find and Moss do not list them any more (if they ever did)

Thanks,

Maurie P

I'm not sure which part you mean. You mention the knob and spindle so it could be the grub screw that secures the knob to the spindle. But from what I can see 7/16" BSP is around 1/2" measured so more like the nut that holds the control in the dash. The screw doesn't seem to be listed, but several places show the nut as 12H1249 including MG Sales in Oz.

Struck me overnight that there is no grub screw in the heater control knobs, it's a spring pin on the shaft instead.

A follow up to my thread - I found what I was after. I was wanting the thin nut that holds the heater/defrost control unit to the fascia.

After months of searching around the globe, I found the part in the UK. It is a nut that is commonly used in the electric household table lamp industry.

It is a BSB thread, of 1/2" with 26 threads per inch. Interestingly, it does not form part of any MG spare parts suppliers inventory, anywhere around the world. Hope this might help others.

Hi Maurie
Happy New Year
I got a bit confused there and thought you were after something strange to hold the knob on the spindle--The panel nut you're after that holds the control housing to the fascia is still available--27H1249
Brown & Gammons show them -

and Moss Europe-

1/2" BSCY -26tpi

Probably get them (half nuts or lock nuts)at your local bicycle shop---unless they've gone metric now

Puzzled by what you say about it not being available I rechecked and found I gave the wrong number, should be 27H1249 as Willy writes. This place in Oz https://www.mgsales.com.au/products/27h1249 indicates they are available, as well as B&G in the UK.

Whoops,

Lazy search reveals a negative, so I must confess my sin of not looking more diligently.

I was so sure that they were no longer available that I made that posting error, as I was after a quantity of them.

In any event I got some from a UK lamps parts supplier, at around half the price of the MG suppliers prices.

Thanks for the links, I am much obliged.
