MG MGB Technical - MGB HIF HS6 Carbs on a B manifold

I have just managed to buy a tuned engine that came with HIF HS6 twin carbs on a MGB manifold. Has anyone else worked with these as the only information i have found was a option on a Austin Princess 1800st.
This used a B engine and were built by the special tuning devision. The engine is a 1950 with stage 2 head but has been standing for a while so needs a overhaul.
SU Carbs want £256 each for a overhaul !!
Any help/ info would be great

£256 each for an overhaul of a pair of used HIF4's?
Ridiculous! Buy your own rebuild kits at £78.00 (£93.60 inc. VAT) each and do it yourself. After all, you can get a brand-new pair of new HIF44's from Burlen Fuel Systems for £509.51 (£611.41 inc. VAT).

Price was for HIF6'S complete overhaul but still a joke,
Rebuild kit will be the way but has anyone ever seen these on a B

HS and HIF are two completely different designs/series of carbs. Can't be both! Those are HIF.
Interesting manifold, never saw a picture of that, but then we missed a lot over here. Certainly not a standard MGB item, and not like any ST one I've seen.

J Pierson, Indeed interesting manifold. I suspect the past tuner has a large bore engine built, and wants the very max out out it so has gone for these 2 inch throated carbs, ( maybe all he could find at the time ! ) this will give max breathing at very high revs. But,,, are the characteristics matched? and the manifold has it a balance pipe? If not I would reckon the set up will be a pig to run smoothly? And for road?? By all means open up, renew and rebuild yourself, but get info from the SU people themselves (burlen)See if it is going to work with the engine specs. Mike

JP- Assumedly you have a spritely built large bore with 1 3/4 HIF and I assume at least a bit worked head if not a Burgess BVFR, with a cam to enhance?. Curto in the USA will rebuild those dastardly puppies for about $500 for the pair and they are done right.
Why not use a Maniflow with a proper balance tube? According to Peter B in his classic tome, and echoed by Mr. S. Strange, the Maniflow intake will bless you with an additional 2-4 HP mid range, and make driving a lot more fun. Cheers, Vem
