MG MGB Technical - Mgb hs6 carbs

Hey all

Wondered if anyone here has a set of mgb hs6 carbs for sale ?

Ideally with linkages etc - happy to rebuild

In the uk ideally

Thanks

I hope you have a significantly modified engine. If you strap them onto a standard or mildly tuned MGB engine you will almost certainly lose BHP.

I think a 2 litre engine- stage 2 head - piper 270 cam - freeflow exhaust would be OK :-)
richard weaver

Yeah. That should do it.

Thinking out loud
Are you going to adapt onto a B manifold or do you have an 1 3/4 manifold ready to go
What price range are we talking----
I'm thinking freight would probably kill anything from here though

You need "fast gas" and won't get it unless you can produce a high revving screamer, which is not what these engines are about. My 4 litre V8 runs HIF 44's which are more or less 1 3/4". It's flowed and tuned with a Hurricane Viper cam and is fed better than adequately by them, producing 220BHP and 330ft/lbs.
A few years ago I built a lightened and balanced 1865cc, with stage 2 and large bore 3 branch and that ran beautifully on HIF4's. 105BHP and 120 ft/lbs with no low down or idling skittishness, beautifully flexible with decent acceleration. Bolting on 1 3/4" will make it rubbish low down.
Save your money, buy some SU needles and get yourself to a rolling road, preferably Peter Burgess's.

thanks for comments allan, i actually contacted peter burgess and it was he that actually suggested the hs6 cabs for my engine spec so thats why I'm going down this option

richard weaver

Richard, are you intending to use it for competition?

No just a nippy road car - already fast being 2 litre and stage 2

Enquirer with Peter as to what best mods are to get the most out of it and he advised piper cam and hs6 carbs - so that's where my search began

Was Looking at weber or delorto and he advised those for track - su (hs6) for road
