MG MGB Technical - mgb leans to left

can anyone help me correct this lean to the left problem. i switched the rear springs frome the two sides and thought for sure it would correct the the lean, but it,s still there.any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you swap the front springs? If not you may have too. If the lean is is very noticable you may need to replace the springs.

First, how are you measuring the ride height, and what is it? It must be done from the centre of each axle to the bottom of the bright trim strip that runs the length of the car, to eliminate the effects of wheels, tyres and tyre pressure (yes, I have know of one lean be due to tyre pressure). And even that relies on the accuracy of the trim strip, which depends on how well any wing replacements have been done.

If swapping both ends side to side doesn't move the lean, then it implies problems with the spring mountings, either chassis rails at the rear or cross-member/chassis rails at the front. Remember that problems at one corner can reveal themselves at the opposite corner.

And for people who drive from the RHS, the car leans to the right.
Much conjecture on this. The closest thing to a conclusion is that the body "settles", whatever that means.
My car was in California until about 1982, then was imported to Australia and the steering switched over. It had a lean of 6mm, which is a lttle less than usual, probably due to its late start.
I put a 5mm spacer plate at the front RHS between the body and crossmember, which corrected most of it. This was done for steering shaft clearance issues, but had this lean correction benifit for me.
You could also put a plate/block at the back. You can get half inch ones.

Also, if your car is a rubber bumper car, you could also redrill the spring hanger bolt hole.

Hi all,
I had this with my RB roadster. While changing all the front end bushes, i measured the front springs and they were the same length (still leaning). At the MOT test 2 weeks later the tester told me to renew the front springs and because the rear leafs had recently been renewed, this would cure the problem, which it did.

I've also had this problem cured by working on front suspension..even though it looked to be 100% in the rear. I did not take measurements though.

If the bushings have never been replaced they may be really worn causing "settling". Do the front wheels lean in at the top?
Bryan

thanks everyone for your help. i plan on switching the front springs and hopefuly curing the left rear lean on my 1973 mgb.i have about a 1 inch lean in the rear.
