MG MGB Technical - MGC wires on a MGB

Hi all, is there a down side to running 15" 72 spoke wire wheels on a BGT? I picked up this particular car a few weeks ago and it has 4 new 15" chromes wheel fitted plus a new 15" painted wheel as spare. All with Pirelli P6000 tyres so the PO has gone to a great deal of expense. The car looks great and drives okay but the increase in diameter must be making the car a bit long legged. I estimate the speedo is reading a bit low. The tyres are 185 x 65. Can anyone tell me the O/D difference between these and standard 14" wheels/tyres.

Maybe do a swop?

R Lawson

I'm running the same WW on my '66 GT. The only draw-back that I have found is that to change a tyre on the rear, I have to jack the car up by placing the jack at the spring shackle to let the wheel down enough to get the wheel off. (Don't trust the jack-point) If not, I don't have the clearance between the tyre and the wing opening.

Use this simple calculator to figure out the difference

I use this link (with calculator) for tyre and wheel sizes as it also explains more and connects to the other pages with other useful info - http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible_pg4.html

I have to do that on my CB roadster with standard wire wheels, although I use the front spring hanger.

It is a good idea to change to 15" - it opens up more tire options.

Given that the MGB and MGC are identical in terms of fender room, there is no issue when fitting MGC wheels to an MGB.
