MG MGB Technical - more elecrical problems

my front drivers side indicator was working fine , ive striped the cable back and there is no supply yet the rear works fine .i only have one flasher unit and a space where the another can fit ,allso i have two spare cables hanging underneath .i can use the hazards by turning the switch down (on)then by putting the indicator two he left or right it activates the hazards .im wondering if i should run a fresh cable from the rear and tie wrap it to the wiring lumb and re connecting to the front indicator thanks

I would not run a cable from the rear, it will work but be a mess. When you put the hazards on does the front indicator flash? I would be puzzled if it does.

all the indicators work except the front drivers side ,it was working fine up to a few days ago .when i put the hazards on the same front right does not work , ive striped the cable back and there is no supply .im a little confused as there is a second space for another flasher unit to fit in to and there are two cables hanging one with a 12 volt feed . i have to move the indicator stalk right or left and switch the hazards on to make them work .my car is a 79 .

What colours are the "spare" wires? Also what colour wires go to the flasher unit that is there? I don't understand how you can have indicators and hazard flashers with only one flasher unit?

However, the problem with the front driver's side must be a break in the feed to the lamp if there is no voltage to the lamp when the rear on that side is flashing. Trace the green/white wire(I'm assuming it's right hand drive?) back from the lamp to a 4 way bullet connector with 3 green/white wires and check for a voltage there. That is the common point for the flashers on that side. There must be a voltage going in to that connector as the rear is working.

Is your car LHD or RHD?
I am going to assume RHD.
Have you looked at the wiring diagram for your car?
Make yourself an enlarged copy from the link I provided you with above.
Hazards lights and turn indicators are two separate circuits that join at a bullet and sleeve connector under the bonnet. You should be able to find a sleeve connector with four green/white wires connected to it. Make sure all connections are clean and secure.
1. power from the turn signal switch
2. power from the hazard switch
3. outgoing power to the front right indicator lamp
4. outgoing power to the rear right indicator lamp

Hazard lights get power from the brown wire circuit and should work regardless if the car is on or off.
Turn signals get power from the green wire circuit and should only work if the car is on.
The hazard switch switches between the two circuits.
When the hazard switch is in the off position, the two green wires are connected and the turn signal switch gets power.
When the hazard switch is in the on position, the two green wires connected to the hazard switch are not connected, and the lightgreen/brown wire is connected to the green/white and green/red wires.
There should be two flashers, one for the turn signals located on the firewall under the dash and one for the hazards located behind the radio console.
What color wires do you have connected to the flashers? What are the colors of the wires hanging down?
Make sure the ground connections for the lamps are clean and secure.
Since the hazard lights and the turn signals are separate circuits, turning on the turn signals while the hazard lights are on should have no effect. Were there any changes made to the wiring?

ive sotred the problem , you can use one flasher unit for both but the speed is wrong .i had a damaged wire and i ran a new one from the boot .

Hi Daz,
The flasher units are current sensitive. That is why there are two units. The indicators draw only half the current of the hazard flashing situation. It sounds like a previous owner has done his own mods to get a hazard system without going to the bother of fitting an additional flasher of the correct current rating. I assume the car is a 1972 car or earlier. My car was built December 1972 and it does not have a hazard system fitted. Must get round to doing it some time soon.
