MG MGB Technical - New Diagnostic Tool - a must have!

Today I took the pickup into our favorite auto fix it shop and the manager showed me a fantastic new diagnostic tool. He said that is is only $19.99 and every home hobbyist should have. See the picture below. Cheers - Dave

Now, that is my kind of tool. No skinned knuckles.

Must have been the early version of the modern day computer code reader.

Thanks David, I needed a good laugh. Hope you don't mind I clipped the photo and sent it out to my All British News mailing list as well. This is just too good not to share.

I have an 8 ball on my workshop table. Actually, you would not believe how many times when I ask it if I should just quit for a while when I get frustrated on a project it tells me yes.

"I ask it if I should just quit for a while when I get frustrated on a project it tells me yes."

Smart 8 Ball, hang on to that one.

Great sense of humor and thanks. On a similar note, I remember when my B was my only car and watching the temp rise only to realize I had a water pump failing on the way home from work. Back then, you diagnosed quickly, found the parts and worked (sometimes till late at night) to get it back together for driving to work the next day.

The guy that ran the foreign car parts store in my town could be a funny guy. I called him hoping he had the parts and I could get there before closing time.

I ask him "what's a water pump for an MGB run?" He replies that it runs coolant from the engine to and from the radiator to keep the engine from overheating.

Reminds me of the problem I had with my Henway.

I still diagnose quickly, and work as long as possible to get it ready for driving the next day. It beats taking a car to the dealer for $65/hr to connect to a computer, then leave overnight with no loaner and if its the weekend, forget it. My daughter's Jetta is in the shop for "coolant migration" in the wiring loom! It burned out the connections at the gauge cluster. The dash has to come out to get the loom out and it goes all the way to the gas tank! My throne for another MGBGT with a.c. for her!
