MG MGB Technical - New wire wheel spinners

Advice please on which supplier is currently selling good quality chrome on brass wire wheel eared spinners where the chrome doesn't chip off after a few blows from a copper faced mallet.

The answer is, don't hit them. Use a tool that allows the use of a long wrench. I have one for the three-eared spinners on my Elan. Added bonus is that you no longer have the worry that one day you might hit the wheel, or even the wheel arch. It's expensive, but it's great.

That is ludicrously expensive just get a deadweight mallet with nylon faces - Thor do one for about £24!

There is a gentleman named B. Smith in Australia that manufactures knock-off's from stainless steel. Someone on this forum should have his e-mail and shipping address.

I bought a set of Bruce Smith's stainless knock offs. (He supplies them, though I don't think he actually makes them. They are however made here in Australia.
The stainless knock-offs are indeed excellent. And there's no chrome plating to chip off with a tool, mallet or, kerb for that matter.
And with the currently weak Australian dollar the price should also be quite manageable.
Bruce Smith is VERY reliable, and knows a ton about MGs. I deal with him often.

I bought a 'lead' mallet from the MGOC when I fitted my wire wheels and the first tentative tap left a visible mark so after that I always used a sacrificial wood block. Until I found a Thor hammer as Chris mentions, that has an alloy face and a nylon face. The nylon face has unsurprisingly done no damage at all in 25 years.

The benefit of the deadweight is that it is filled with steel shot that stop the bounce and deliver more power to the blow.

Mine has seen a fair bit of use over the years without doing any damage -
