MG MGB Technical - Oil Gauge pipe clip

Can anyone show me where the small pipe clip goes behind the dash to support the oil gauge pipe please?

I cannot find the self taper hole and forgot where it was !!

I changed mine, remember a clip but didn't refit and can't see a hole either, sorry.

Hi Colin,
The pipe & clip appear to be the same for both Chrome & RB cars with the Oil/Water gauge (Chr) & Oil gauge (RB) being in approx the same place. See picture for where my clip is fixed (there only appears to be one clip inside the car).
Cheers,

Charles thanks for that. Yes there is only the 1 clip.

But I cannot see easily where your clip is. Looks like to the left of the column on the bulkhead?

I will have another look on my shell to see if there is a hole there.

Hi Colin,
I have just taken another photo. The screw is fixed to the bulkhead facing you , to the left of the steering column approx 1 1/2 " up from the edge & approx 1/2" to the left of the lower edge of the bulkhead before the edge starts to curve.
Hope that is clear enough. (I have had my car from new & the pipe has never been moved).
Cheers,

To be honest the first picture was more useful as it contained more stuff around it for context. I can see from the odo reset knob and column mounts that is an RB.

I looked all round that area on my CB and can't see an unused hole for a screw, although the replaced oil pipe does go up right there to the gauge.

Then I did some Googling and found this on MGExperience of an LHD CB which shows it near the top right-hand corner of the cold air flap and that is where I found the tapped hole on mine, i.e. further up and left than the RB.

Thanks Paul for the explanation. For some reason I was thinking it was a self taper, but I do have the threaded hole, so that must be it!!

I realised Charles was RB. This car is chrome.

Apparently a self-tapper was used on RBs, into the heater air intake and can be seen by looking through the grille at the base of the screen.

The position shown by Charles9 - using a self-tapper - may only be in later RBs as my 75 V8 has a P-clip in the CB position - but for the temp gauge capillary! The oil pipe on those comes in above the main harness and I think has a P-clip above the steering column.
