MG MGB Technical - Oldest Original Owner MGB

Probably not a list to track this sort of thing. Does anyone keep up with this? I thought someone may know how to find the answer.

Certainly a temporary title. I believe my dad is at or near the top of the list of the oldest MGB still driven by the original owner. It was built 25-26 February 1963. He bought it new in early April 1963.

Amazing! Your dad's the uncrowned champ at the moment! That's so early in the production run, I think it'd be difficult to challenge.

I think there's a chap who contributes here that's had his since the mid-Sixties. Never heard earlier.

I would say your dad is the original owner.

The car was built 25-26 Feb.1963. By the time the car actually rolled off the assembly line, you're looking at another day to a week (27-Feb to 1-4 Mar.) before it was transported to a shipping dock (4-6 Mar.) in the UK.
Add another week to dock (7-14 Mar.) at some USA port.
Now you're looking at (14-20 Mar) from USA port to transporter arrival at a dealership. By the time your dad purchased the car, the dealer had the car prepped and roadworthy, he took possession 1-4 April 1963.

It would be a fun research to see just when all of the above is reasonably accurate.

The BMIHT certificate shows the dealer and date of first registration for UK cars, don't know about exports.

In those days the date of first registration represented the purchase date, it was only in the 80s when dealers were 'pre-registering' cars to artificially boost 'sales'.

I do know that my dad is the original owner. I know where & when he bought it.

The question is, are there any original MGB owners with an MGB older than his?

BTW, he drove it this past Saturday. We drove it to the "Springtime in the Smokies" British & Euro show in Townsend, TN.

The pic was taken in 1965. My dad is now 87 & still shifting gears. :)
