MG MGB Technical - Overfilling Rear Axle

I would appreciate thoughts on overfilling the rear axles used in high performance MGB's. With only 1L of oil in the axle I would think that most of this is pushed into the axle tubes when at very high speed.

I'm not an expert on axles but would think that, at some point of the overfilled volume, you risk generating enough pressure to force oil past seals. I suppose the trick is to estimate the stop point!

Perhaps someone will chime in with an experienced view.

Over filling is worse than being a little under full. I dont know if there are any figures on a rear axle but I do remember from my motor mech apprentership days in the fifties that it was possible with a racing TA-TB-TC to explode the gearbox housing by being an inch over full.
It built up pressure between the gear sets forcing them apart. Did not help the drag factor either.

The axle has a breather to prevent pressure from *heat expansion* blowing seals. If most were pushed into the axle tubes I would expect it to start coming out of the breather, and that would only happen in corners anyway, not simply at high speed. Yet another thing not to worry about, I suspect, just keep at at the right level when cold.

Thanks for comments
Im regularly doing speeds over 130mph, the axle gets quite hot and I was thinking 1 litre of oil is not a lot.

If you have too much in it will come out of the breather as it does on my MGA race car!
I have put a piece of tube on the breather, with a loop in it, and then extended away from the fuel tank.
