MG MGB Technical - Pulley wheel
| Hello, Can anyone tell me if this pulley wheel is suitable to be fitted to my engine? Some of the rubber is missing (which got weakened when it was degreased). I wouldn't normally think twice and replace it, but these seem hard to come by. Are these an assembly as a new rubber section would make it as good as new. Regards,

I don't know enough to know if that one is OK but if it isn't there are places around that can repair pullies like that. It's not a DIY thing I think. Search for 'harmonic damper' or 'harmonic balancer' rebuilders.

I probably would not fit it to mine. I would be concerned that the inner/outer damper rings would be prone to separation. Second Simon's advice.

Alex, It does not look much different to mine, they are quite expensive to replace. I would be inclined to use it but keep an eye on it for a while unless you are flush, then replace it.

Mark a stripe across the inner and outer parts , run it and watch for movement over time. Junk it if it shifts.

I sent mine to the "Damper Doctor" and they completely refurbished it. I can look up the Email address if you want.Rich O

Alex, Andy Jennings who advertises on this web site for second hand spares, advertises pulley wheels at £15 each.
