MG MGB Technical - pushrod cover gaskets

I'm gradually getting the engine back together. My gasket set has two thick rubber gaskets and one thinner cork gasket for the pushrod covers. Which one goes where?
Steve Church

Hi Steve

We tend to use the rubber one on the rear cover and the cork one on the front cover.

I tend to use the silicone gaskets sold through a place with a name like Roadster Gaskets or Roadster something. They do the side cover gasket as well as the valve cover gasket and work much much better than the other after market gaskets.

I think the side cover design is quite compromised, as it is quite simple for the gaskets to slide out of position during the tightening process. Some of the cork and rubber after market gaskets take quite a stretch to get them in place.

R W They are no longer in business.

I put the rubber one on the rear cover, and the cork one on the front cover (coated it with Hylomar blue to hold it in place on the front cover, made it easier to install).

They made good gaskets, a shame they are out of business. I should have ordered an extra valve cover gasket.
