MG MGB Technical - Rear axle removal

Anyone any idea how to undo the propshaft/Diff nuts ?. I've given them a good soak in Penetrating fluid. The bolt head is very shallow and its impossible to get a socket on the other end.
The 1/2" spanner is also very slim and I'm afraid if rounding off the bolt heads.

The're not that tight. You should be able to get two ring keys on the nuts fairly easily and once you have broken the torque you should be OK.

Also, a little heat applied to the nuts will cause them to expand and free themselves from the bolts. RAY

Aren't those bolts special ones with a round head with a flat on one side? The bolt holes are so close to the shaft that the bolt head will only fit with the flat against the shaft so they heads can't turn anyway.

Simon,

Those are only on the gearbox flange end on mine. My diff end flange has standard bolts. I recall I had to fiddle to manually turn the flange to access the bolts in turn from a narrow angle.

Roger, yes I think you're right. I need to go re-tighten all the suspension bolts on mine so will have a look while I am under there.
