MG MGB Technical - Rear Hub Removal - advice needed

I need to replace one of the rear axle half shaft oil seals.
I have removed the large hub nut and removed the brake drum. I have got a large 3 legged puller on the hub and tightened it considerably. However the hub will not budge. Where do I need to "hit" it to persuade it to free. Do I hit the end of the puller hard or hit the hub to shock it free?

Any advice welcome!

You need a slide hammer

What is the centre of the puller bearing against?

The 3 leg puller is probably not on straight, causing a side load and sticking. A better way is with a 2 or 4 leg puller that bolts to the wheel studs. I made mine from 2 steel angles with a bridge between. I used a 1/4 thick steel disc over the end of the axle.

Art,do you have any pics of your homemade puller

Managed to get it off! Tightened the puller as much as possible and hit the end of it and the hub came loose!

The first question should have been "what axle?"

Having fiddled about with a couple of the later Salisbury/tube axles I've always got the hubs off the half-shaft simply by tapping a couple of steel wedges between the heads of the back-plate bolts and the back of the hub on opposite sides. This 'wiggles' it off so it comes off easier than with the straight pull of a puller or slide hammer.
