MG MGB Technical - Rubber bumper water pump in chrome bumper car

Are there any clearance issues running a late GWP130 water pump and pulley and large crank pulley in a chrome bumper car?

Both long (18G) and short (18V) pumps were used on chrome bumper cars, and the GWP130 is a short, so I can't see there being clearance problems to the radiator at least. The pumps did change physically during the crome bumper era, and although they fit are not compatible cooling-wise, so it will depend primarily on what engine you have. Some longs at least seem to work OK on an 18V, but then there were three different types. Maybe the major change was from 3-bearing to 5.

The 3 bearing engine uses a completely different water pump. All of the 5 bearing engine water pumps will interchange on other 5 bearing blocks. I have a '67B that has a Moss supercharger kit installed. It came with the later rubber bumper cast iron water pump and clearance isn't an issue. RAY

Any problems with the crank pulley and the crossmember?

Although both 5 bearing pumps will bolt up, they are different lengths and you can have pulley alignment problems.

Long-nose pumps use deep pulley, short nose a shallow pulley, so the pulley alignment remains correct. Short nose also need a spacer to position the fan correctly, otherwise when it is fitted the right way round it fouls the engine. Ironically it has the correct spacing if you fit it the wrong way round, as mine came to me. The difference in cooling is marginal. If you replace along-nose pump with a short-nose then the spacer may fit inside the pulley. Short-nose with shallow pulley and spacer on a 73 here:
