MG MGB Technical - steering rack years

getting a new steering rack from victoria brt. I hear the older racks have a quicker ratio for turning. I am wondering, can I put the older rack they sell on my 79 b?thanks Doug

Doug. Different rack system. It might be possible to do so, but it would require a lot of re-engineering for very little gain. I have both a 79 and a 68 and do not notice any real difference in the steering when driving.

The new racks, in production today, all have the same ratios, unlike the originals which varied from chrome bumper to rubber bumper models. RAY

Don't forget to check if the new rack has oil in it, and please don't ask why I think that is a risk....

willem, I remember a post that the new racks had grease not oil but I believe someone added oil to it and found it much better with the oil/ so I wont ask if it was you. lol thanks Doug

The new racks come packed with grease. They don't have an internal oil passage, like the original ones, for the oil to circulate from one side to the other. RAY
