MG MGB Technical - SU float chamber

The SU float chambers appear very loose on my 71 roadster even though the attaching bolts are tight,is this normal and would this cause fuel leaks. I believe there are collars between the body and float chambers, maybe they need replacing. Trev

There are spacers with angled lugs which deteriorate over time.

They have different angles of the lugs depending on application and are handed for front & back carbs so you need to get the right ones.

Chris, Thanks for your reply. Would you recommend these to be changed, are they likely to leak.
I have been on the burlen site where these replacement parts are advertised but not obvious which ones fit the Mgb.

Did you ask this somewhere else? HS4 carbs?

The fuel gets from the float chamber to the jet via an external jet pipe. There is no fuel passage where the float chamber is attached to the main body, so no leaks.

trevor. no issue with fuel leaks. the fixing that supports the chamber is not in contact with the inside of the carb. the fact that they move is not a big issue. so did mine.

I should also have said they they are designed to move - it reduces the effects of engine vibrations on the float valve.

They should not be loose - the float chambers should be held vertical in both directions but with a little give from the bush.
