MG MGB Technical - Sump Washers - Star - GHF321

Does anyone know where I can buy the correct washers which go under the 19 x 1/4 UNF sump retaining bolts ?

Part # GHF321

When I buy GHF321 from MOSS they are much smaller outside diameter to the originals.

Thanks
Mark

Hi Nigel,

Yes but the outside diameter is much smaller than the original factory one's, so they don't spread the load as much. I've seen loads of sumps which leak, as the sump mounting holes have been bent inwards around the holes. A simple tap down fixes the problem but it's probably caused by over tightening and the wrong washers.

Loads on ebay but none which look correct.

I went to moss UK today and returned the bag full of GHF321 star washers. They were 1/4 x 1/2

The original star washers are 1/4 x 5/8

Does anyone know where such star washers can be purchased?

Thanks in advance

The compressible sump washers do seem small, but look carefully and you will see they are actually intended to "screw" on to the bolt.

Could always use the 'special' oval shaped washers as used on the 'A' series to spread the force to a larger area - assume there's sufficient space on flange ?

Think the bolt is the same part no.

think you need a 1/4" SAE washer that is 5/8" diameter - and then use whatever start washer you can reasonably get hold of to do the locking?

Try Westfield fasteners in the UK?

Many Thanks Dominic.

I'll add it to my next order from Todd. Shame we have to go to such extremes to get a simple washer though.

Thanks
Mark
