MG MGB Technical - sun visor help

Tried to fit sunvisors to my late RB roadster and it appears the thickness of the pivot bracket is too thick for the amount of thread on the visors. Were there different pivots fitted or am I overlooking something. I feel the only way around it is to remove the pivot brackets and drill them out a little - is this the correct thing to do?

Some of the visors ended with a threaded rod and used a nut to affix the visor. Others ended in a threaded hole and used a machine screw to affix the visor. Moss catalog can be used to determine specifics on things like this (usually).

Looks like five different part numbers over the years.

You can't easily remove the pivot brackets if they are riveted to the screen frame. Well, you can but then you'll be left with the end of the rivet inside the frame that you can't remove. If you then rivet the mount back on there is a danger the new rivet will press the old remaining bits inside the frame into the glass and crack it. I know this from experience!

Showed the problem to a friend of mine who has a repair garage - he took the visors and welded some threaded bar to the existing bar so I can get a nut on! Save me having to remove the brackets!

Hi,
I had this very problem and solved it by using a drill bit, of appropriate size (can't remember what) in a brace and slowly turning it, with the bracket in situ, till the hole was deep enough to give adequate length of the thread to take the washers and nut. Whatever you do DON'T use an electric drill as you will wind up with a large hole right through the bracket. Also use an old sheet or similar draped over the car's interior to catch the swarf.
