MG MGB Technical - Superlfex bushing in raer spring

I am trying to install the blue Superflex bushing in the front eye of the rear spring. I have lubed everything, but the lips on the bushings will not compress enough to slide the bushing in. I have cleaned all of the old bushing and metal out, but the fit is too tight. Should I grind off a bit of the lip? Would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks. The spring is off the car.

Did you remove the metal sleeve for the old bushing? I believe it has to be removed to fit Superflex bushings in the spring.

I have to say, even looking at the front eye bush and the eye it had to go into meant I stuck with the rubber ones (for that location only!).

i used a bolt, long enough to go thru the bushing and the eye of the leaf sring. First put a large washer on the head side and then another on the opposite side, place nut on and tighten so that the bushing doesn't slip out of square with the orfice it is fitted to. Place the leaf spring and the set up on a bench or whatever allows it to be supported. Smack the bolt end with a heavy hammer, amazingly for me, popped right in.

i have just finished bushing my mg with blue superflex bushes, and had the same problem with the rear spring bushes, i managed it by putting the bushes in boiling water for a few minuets then clamping in a vice untill squashed then compressing round the edge of the bush with a pair of waterpump pliers until the shoulder was in the spring eye, then pressed home with the vice, thinking about it though i can't see why you could not cut the bush in half and push in from each end.HTH

I took them to a machinist who used a 5-ton press to install them. Money well spent, in my opinion.

l Ashley Thanks for yuor suggestion. I bought a 1/2 " bolt 5 " long 2 washers and a nut. I just tightned up the nut and the bushing slid right in. The whole procedure took me all of 5 minutes. Thanks again.
