MG MGB Technical - Tachometer wring diagram
G'day. I have found circuit diagrams of the "current loop" type of tacho but am after a diagram of the type that has a single wire from the points terminal on the distributor. Can anyone help? Cheers Tony |

Bruce. Thanks very much for a perfect answer to my question. Trouble is, I asked the wrong question. What I meant to ask was Does anyone have a diagram of the INTERNALS of the pulse type. Sorry about that chief. Tony |

Hello Tony, Found that URL for all your requirements: "http://www.mgexperience.net/library.php" goto electricals then tachometer servicing Good luck. |

Thanks gents. Unfortunately they all refer to the current loop type, not the 'pulse from the points type'. It seems that circuit diagrams of the later models are as rare as..... I just want to make sure that I have a diagram before I attempt a repair on it so I know I am using the correct components. Thanks for all your efforts. Looks like I will have to resort to drawing a diagram using the cct board. Tony |

A description of the differences betweem RCV and RCI can be found here: http://www.gglotus.org/ggtech/smith-tach/smithtach.htm |

Thanks gents. It seems to be a difficult task to get the correct cct diagram. All the Smiths tachos searched for on Google bring up the diagram of the current sensing type not the voltage sensing. Cheers Tony |

http://members.shaw.ca/tsmit/tachmod/tachmod.html has a *replacement* voltage pulse type circuit, using a 555 timer. If yours is bust (and it isn't the movement) might be an alternative to replacing the tach complete. |

Thanks Paul. Looks interesting. I think I may go down that path. Nice modern components and easy to get hold of. Tony |
