MG MGB Technical - Torque values - 72 Roadster

Can anyone tell me what the torque setting should be for the 7 gearbox to engine backplate bolts? It would also be good to know where the three different lengths are used. i.e. 4 short, 1 intermediate and 2 long.
Richard Coombs

Richard - send me your email address and I'll email you a pdf list of almost every torque setting for the B.

PDF sent. I hope it's useful. From experience, I suggest tightening progressively to avoid stripping threads on old or aftermarket fasteners as quality control isn't always as good as it should be.

Thanks again Colin. Looks like the gearbox to engine bolts are not listed. They're 5/16" UNC so I think 20ftlbs should be ok.
Richard Coombs

Agreed - 20 as for "front plate" and "rear plate". If everything is in good condition you should be able to go as high as 24 for both 5/16 and 3/8. Also, these are dry torques, lube changes them.

Hello C.J.Carroll I would appreciat a copy of your Torque settings if you wouldn't mind, any info. on MGB is always very useful.
