MG MGB Technical - V8 fuel tank

I am fitting a fuel injected V8 into a rubber bumper that I have converted to chrome bumpers, and found I need either an RV8 fuel tank or a swirl pot fitting to a standard tank.
The RV8 tank is as rate as hen’s teeth, so the swirl pot is the only sensible option.

Does anyone have plans, drawings or photographs or even any experience of completing this little task?

Any help gratefully received

i dont know if it will work for you but for me when i plan to fit my k series as its a chrome bumper car i can fit the later rubber bumper sender with the additional fuel pipe to be used as a return. You dont HAVE to have a swirl pot, its only there to give a continuous flow, so long as you keep plenty of fuel in the tank you dont need one. Ill be doing it that way until i find a suitable swirl pot. Just keep the tank up.

It might be worth talking to British Motor Heritage

They produce fuel tanks for Bs, both standard and baffled. Maybe they do an RV8 tank or a variant?

I did what Mr New said, used a chrome bumper tank which has the elbow outlet, and a rubber bumper fuel gauge sender unit which also has an outlet on it. I draw the fuel from the tank elbow and return it via the gauge unit pipe. In the RH battery bin I have a swirl pot, a low pressure pump and a high pressure pump (see picture). The LP pump draws fuel from the tank to the pot, with excess overflowing back to the tank. The HP pump draws fuel from the pot to the fuel rail on the engine and then back to the pot. Again any excess overflows from the pot back to the tank. It works like a charm and if you put your ear to the tank filler neck you can hear the returning fuel splashing back into the tank if the tank is fairly empty.

Mine is similar but the battery 'compartment' is a very tidy solution - where is the battery now ?

Mike has a 12v battery in the LH bin, of course with a RB car you only have one bin but the swirl pot and pumps could be fitted where the LH battery would be on a CB car.

I used a standard CB tank and fitted a Sierra swirl pot inside, with a RB sender for the fuel return it worked very well and required just one pump. I have since changed it for an 14 gallon alloy tank but only for the extra capacity.

Lee, you should post this on MGB engine conversions lots of those cars use FI and not all of them use a swirl pot.

Yes, as Geoff says I have an earlier 1969 car with twin battery bins. I floored in the RH bin to accept the fuel components, and extended the LH bin by remaking the angle-iron base and opening the aperture on the deck up a bit (see picture), and then fitted a single 12v battery. The standard lid still covers it all, so nothing has changed inside the car. The only slight drawback is that you can hear the pumps whirring when you first switch on, but once the V8 has started the noise is drowned out.!!!
