MG MGB Technical - Webasto V Britax Sunroofs, anyone have pictures s

I am looking to find out the differences between the Webasto and Britax / Weathershield sunroofs for the MGB GT.

I've seen many of the Britax type, and not the Webasto I don't think, if anyone has any images of the two , I'd be most grateful so I could compare.

Contemplating fitting one to my GT....
Chris Cooper

Chris,

The Webasto has a wooden frame fitted to the car, the Weathershield Britax has steel reinforcing bars that should run from the inner gutter area on one side to the other. Sometimes they are cut short by lazy fitters.

Here's the exploded drawing of the Britax version.

If you need one restoring, then I can help.

Thank you David -

I don't have a sunroof at all at the moment, but want to fit one to the GT that I am restoring.

Car is bare metal at the moment, so now should be the time to cut the hole....

Have seen that used Britax ones can often be incomplete and troublesome to refit and as I may be trimming in a personal colour there may be just as much in repairing a used Britax as having a Webasto made up.

- I have have info now on New Webasto - they may look similar but are very different!

not 100% sure where I go from here yet - it may be that a new Webasto made for the car is the long them right thing...?

David -Is your email still the same as it was in June 2010? Parabolics-continues?!
Chris-sorry to hijack the thread-back to sunroofs, and mine's a Roadster!
Michael Beswick

Hello Michael,

Yes, the e-mail's still the same.

I can't remember what you know about the parabolics, but I'll happily reply to any questions by e-mail.

Chris,

I've been renovating Weathershield roofs for some time now. Happy customers so far. I've got quite a lot of parts and the patterns to make inner and outer covers. I can do the outer in Mohair or PVC. I buy the material from Woolies (no secrets here), so you can see the range of colours on their website.

I'm making tooling for the parts that are hard to find. I make glassfibre rails to replace the original steel ones when they rust away. I make polyurethane resin moujldings for the slides that go missing, and I'm just about to make a mould to make the sunvisor/wind deflector with the correct bend and tinted material.

Let me know if you're interested and I'll send you my price list and some photos.

I can also let you have a set of scans of the fitting instructions with the dimensions for the holes you cut in the roof.

David hi, I will cut in here. Perhaps you could email me you price list. I have a GT never had a webasto or Britax, but here in Oz and with no air cond, perhaps I may go to this? Thanks Mike PS mike@quaysdentalpractice.com.au

Guys, David seems to have dropped out of circulation. I have his email and contact numbers and have been trying to reach him for a couple of months without success.
If I have any luck I'll be in touch. Vin I'll forward the info he sent me. But it won't be a lot of use if we can't track him down.
There again I might take on the challenge ;0)

Mike

Did you ever manage to track him down?

Or, if you're reading this, David, I'm looking for a part for a Britax.

Chris, personal opinion only, but I rate the original Tudor Webasto the best looking, and in England Peter Harvey has been fitting them for 40 years. He is in Sandwich, Kent. You buy the kit of parts from R.S.Coachbuilt.You might have seen from my recent post that I have just successfully fitted one on my BGT - with a lot of email support from Peter Harvey. You can see a gallery of photos on the R.S.Coachbuilt website. Regards, John.
