MG MGB Technical - Wheel 14X7 fit 71_B

Will a set of 14X7 / 4 X 114.5 with a 3.9" set back measured from the lug plate > rear edge of rim fit a 1971-B?

Steve Crowder

Put a tyre (tire!) on and try it!!

Only way!!
Colin Parkinson

I would say highly doubtful unless you modify the wheelarches!

Steve
Is that 3.9" setback to the front face or rear face of the rim
Could you take a measurement both ways for comparison
It'll be real close, I ran a set of 14x7 rims with zero offset on my B the inside cleared ok from memory but had to do some minor panel adjustments near the bump stop if I remember correctly--On the outside I had to turn the lips up, this was with 225x60 tyres, 215 would have cleared nicely but couldn't get them it was either going to be 225 or piddly little 205's this was on a 68 model bodyshell
As the years went on B's seemed to get more clearance on one side than the other, around 73 seemed to be the worst affected by this
Your 71 might be a little different side to side
As Colin suggests, whack a tyre the size you intend running on it and try it on

Nice looking wheel by the way, is that a Western
I had a set of 14x8 Westerns on my Mach 1 years ago , nice wheels
William Revit

They are Western, 40 years old brand new. It was measured from the backside.

I reckon they're 0 offset, 3.9" each way, A 7" rim would be getting close to 8" overall so it'll be close
As Colin suggests ,try a tyre on one, it's the only way really
It's going to depend a bit on the size of the tyre as well

William Revit

....and if it fits .... try it on the rear right .... on the road. Nylon bushes might stop the tyre rubbing.
Roger Walker

I've got Uniroyal 195/70/14s on Revolution 6" rims on my '72 and they rubbed on the rear wheelarches (and, yes, the left one more so), so had to ease the arches out a little. That was with rear polybushes and poly axle platforms. Fronts no problem, even cleared Princess calipers.
