MG MGB Technical - Wheel movement left hand side.

When I grasp the wire wheel/tyre at 12 o clock and push backwards and forwards there is movement. When grapsed at 9 and 3 no movement. Any ideas about what this could be? Kingpin?

Aye, looks like kingpin wear. Get someone to rock the wheel while you feel the joints to detect the movement

Kingpin could be either or both of two places: Stub axle connection or bottom trunnion. You need to check which of these it is.

Also before you got too far. check you spinners are CLEAN and TIGHT.
I found two of mine (Both LHS) had really solid old grease in the outer ring ares (The bit that the hub end sits in) this stopped the spinners tightening fully. I had a judder on braking and steering wobble until I cleaned and tightened.

I tighten mine (After advice from MGE forum) with the wheel off the ground with a BFH until it turns no more. MUCH cheaper than a kinpin :)

Spinners, like bearings, *should* cause the same play no matter where the pressure is applied. Could also be where the lower trunnion bolt goes through the A-arms.

True Paul, But when mine were loose I could feel it more at 6-12 than 3-9 Odd but true
