MG MGB Technical - white box near firewall

I have a 1975 mgb, there is a rectangular white box under the hood on the passenger side near the fire wall, I have looked online and in the manuals that we have and I am unable to figure out what this part is. The top has an opening with male threading it looks like it should have a hose attached,

Service interval device. Was connected to the speedometer and the transmission and recorded the miles done since it was last reset at the dealer service.

As well as the speedo there was an input from the starter, presumably to increment the count from that as well as miles. It lit a warning lamp after a certain number of miles/starts as a reminder to service the EGR valve.

So what I need to know is Do I need to find parts to hook it back up or I can leave disconected.

Your British Leyland dealer will not give you any grief for not connecting, nor will it void your MG's warrantee.

<grin>

Use a long speedo cable and by-pass it.
Rick Ingram

If the speedo is working now then simply leave it, regardless of whether the cable goes via the service interval counter or not. But as there is no cable in the top of the counter I'm guessing that whatever cable you have is already bypassing it.
