MG MGB Technical - wing bead

Is it possible to buy the raised beading that is sandwiched between the front wings and scuttle?

Just the question I was going to ask. I want to treat some rust in the seam but dont want to take the wing off. I though of grinding out the original bead, sorting the rust then bonding in some new bead.

Just looked up in the parts catalogue. Part number BR24. I could find it on Sussex Classic site but not Moss. Don't know about Australia though.

As you write, the beading is sandwiched between the wing and the scuttle. You can buy the beading, it is a T-shaped cross section of thin plate folded back on itself. You can see why it is impossible to de-rust when rust starts. I'm afraid the wing/scuttle gap has to be at least opened up to change it.

(It starts at the bottom of the T, goes up to the top, folds 90°, goes to one arm of the T, folds 180°, back across the top of the T to the end of the other arm, folds another 180°, goes to the middle again where it folds 90° and then goes down to the bottom where it started.)

It certainly was in the UK ... 20 years ago! The front is easy-peasy. At least easier on the roadster being straight rather than the dog-leg of the GT. I had a section rotted out at the rear. Scraped and dug until I could get a junior hacksaw blade right through the gap into the boot, then cut along through seam, spot-welds and all. Derusted (mostly done by hacksawing anyway), dropped in a new section, mig-welded it from below, and after painting you couldn't see the join.

The Roadster Factory sell that. There was a post a few months back where a person ground the old T off and used "JB WELD" and bonded a new T in place.Hope this helps,Rich O

That's a bastard that T strip. It's already starting to crack and rust on mine despite all being cleaned and derusted and primed and painted this year. Wings were painted off the car and bolted on later so I didn't have paint bridging the wing to body seam to crack. It cracked on the other side - the side that's bonded to the wing!

It is available from Moss for the Midget. NOt sure what lengths, but I did buy some last year for a B, same stuff.
