Hi Doug

If your oil is low in zddp then it is probably good to add some. I am not sure what levels are required to protect oldie worldie engines. Sorry to be vague. We now stock Chemodex Zincoat for those who want the extra zddp.

This is a massively confusing area, try http://www.mgb-stuff.org.uk/enginetext.htm#oils !

Crane Cams recommend the need to use a "special" oil only for a short "break-in" period, after which a "premium petroleum-based oil" may be used http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/engine/cm108.htm

Gents,

Over on the TD -TF board there is a thread with a great link on this subject. Takes a good part of an hour to read and is full of factual information.

About 1800-2000ppm recommended...here in the States modern oil is about 800ppm so adding ZDDP+ brings it to around 1850ppm...if you use Valvoline VR1 (1200ppm) 1/2 a bottle of ZDDP+ will give you around 2000ppm...
