MG MGF Technical - 12 month service and cam change quote

Hello,

How much should I be paying for a 12 month service and cambelt change?

I've had my F nearly a year - 75th Anniversary VVC - and it's coming up for a service.

It's a "T" reg and the cams definately are due to be changed.

I'm in south west London if anyone can recommend a garage?

Thanks,
Simon

Why a 12 month service specifically? The cambelt change is part of the 5 year service. Has it already had the 5 year but missed out on the cambelts?

Hi John,

Yes, it's never had a cambelt change - 1999 "T" is certainly due - 45k on the clock???
Simon S

The cam belt needs changing at 5 years, irrespective of a low mileage - it's 5 years OR 60k miles, which ever comes soonest.

Can't recommend any specific garages in your area, sorry. Any one else help?

Question referred to the cam belt:
Is the belt used in the F similar to any other Rover car?

Simon, as you are in London, no MGR dealer will be cheap - in fact they will all be very expensive. If you want cheap then you will have to travel to somewhere like Brown & Gammons in Baldock, Techspeed in Warwick or Mike Satur in Yorks. Now if it's the cam belt change, this may still be cost effective.

However, if you don't want to travel and you live in the Sw of London, then G. Kingsbury in Hampton will do the work competently. I have been using them for over 9 years and whilst they are more standard dealer than personal these days, they do know MGF/TFs and still have properly trained MGF technicians.

At that age things like the radiator and under floor pipes will be reaching the end of their life, so it could be a fairly expensive service.
