MG MGF Technical - adjusting the hard top

I have a 98 vvc with the original hard top. When cruising at the highway above speed of 130 km (80 mph) the wind sound coming from the windscreen increases a lot. This gets even more irrating when i go faster, it gets very loud inside.I have hardened the things inside the latches (both of them), have not helped a lot.I have not tried loosing them yet but it leaks when they are loose.Any recommendations?

As a last resort you could try replacing the windscreen rubber seal and the hard top seals. Since your car these items have been changed a little so may be worth changing over. Also since your car is 5 years old the rubber seals may have started to harden up a little so new soft ones could do the trick.

They may of course be other tricks you could try first, wait to se what others have to say first.

Hmmm, from the windscreen you say? Sounds like the front catches are over tightened, when they are really tight, the hardtop sits proud of the windscreen frame causing loads of wind noise (and sometimes in extreme cases leaks too).

The sill should be from newest design at a 98 registered car. ...., If it was built as well in that time ;)

Depends on the VIN.
Phantom, register at http://www.mgfcar.de/vin and I may have something for you. Confident under our eyes, of course. Look below the hard top and state the hard top numbers/figures written by hand to the lower inner frame as well to the form.

As Andy said, if the catches are over tightened special for a longer time then it might be bad for the sealing.

I think Andy is right, it most probably is too tight.I have loosened it today, probably wont leak (had only leaked once before which is fine). The car only driven for fun so 20k kms on the clock and quite new so no need to change the rubber seal tim.And dieter i will register sometime, i have been reading the bbs for 3-4 years now, i know and trust you but do you reckon that it is safe to do so? By the way things look quite hot here because of the war, quite frightening in fact, hope everything will be well soon.

No worries. It's more secure then Fort Knox. [non american though] ;) you can mail direct.
With you on the scrary current situation. Keep your **se off as good as possible and all the other which had to go as well. :(
