MG MGF Technical - Adjusting the windows

Hi All

I have had my F for about 3 weeks now , (P Reg , 1.8i) ... and it has been brilliant , apart from one thing which is that the windows do not appear to be aligned correctly with the roof.

There are small gaps showing in the top corners and the lip of the roof sits OVER the window at the front but the glass sits over the roof lip at the rear of the window. I have searched around the net on this subject and it seems that i need to adjust my windows (either/both the angle and height) ... i wondered if any of you can offer any tips on the best way to do this or if you know any web based resources i can look up (i am not the greatest mechcanic in the world but i have some ability :) ..

Any help much appreciated as i think the good weather will give out soon and the rain is near!!! .....

Thanks

Almost certainly the window stops are broken. This are little bits of plastic attached to the bottom of the glass and therefore inside the door. Rover do a substantial replacement that screws into the bottom of the window. Their are instructions on the net on fitting these. I suspect I have the address on my home PC but I am in the office. If not one else volunteers this information before this even, I will try to remember to post the address!

It takes about a hour to do both doors and think most long time F owners have had to do it!

If they knew about this place :)

Friend of mine had this happen in his, but got used to putting the affected window down before closing the door, then putting it back up after the door was closed.

Check window stop. Instructions somewhere on how to replace the speakers in the door. Removing the speaker from the door once the panel is off gives good access to the window stop. Replace both with uprated metal bolt version, and it should never happen again.

Many many thanks for your replies.

It does seem to be the window stops as i found that if i pushed up the window (with the switch) so it 'squeezed' the rubber seals , it fits perfectly and seals perfectly. The window has another half an inch or so to go before it hits the stop limit and thats when it goes over the lip and creates the gaps.

Right then , new door stops ... many thanks Dieter for the link.

Oh , the MG people wanted £80+VAT to do this job! ... quite a shocking figure
