MG MGF Technical - After Market Exhaust/s (Again)

Has anyone got the "Blueflame" exhaust fitted on thier F, if so how good?, sound?, Performance?, fitting? etc.

TIA

Mark.

Do I spot someone else spending too much time browsing eBay..? I'd never heard of them as a manufacturer until seeing them auctioned on eBay, maybe being over-cynical but if their products were any good (for the MGF) I'd expect to have heard more about them by now.

Even if they're substantially cheaper, I'd still pay the extra to get a 'tested & proven' offering, particularly if it's been developed specifically for the MGF rather than just manufactured to the appropriate dimensions. IMHO.

Good Point Mike.

Had a "Blueflame" Race can on my ZX9R a few years ago, Can was decent quality and sounded nice, didnt know they did cars untill as you say, seen the add on flea-bay!.

Didn't Phil of TotalMG fame have one on his ZT190 when they bought it and removed it quite early on - seem to remember he thought it a bit LaxPower for the car and rattled on the body.

Blueflame have been manufacturing exhausts for the MGF for years - in fact, when we did the exhaust tests for MG World, I attempted to get hold of one of their systems, but their supplier wouldn't play ball.

Consequently, I don't know exactly how good they are, but I've seen a couple, and they appear well made.

Hmm, I might have to up date the exhust system directory at some point!

Hi,

I am looking for a daytona exhaust but I want to fit it myself, is it difficult to do?
Titou

Yes and no Titou.

In principle, swapping an exhaust is simplicity itself: all you need is a pair of axle stands, and a suitable socket set and torque wrench.

Where things get 'difficult' is when we get down to the realities of removing the catalyst nuts: they're going to be corroded in place, and stuck solid.

Try soaking the bolt threads with liberal application of WD40 or similar penetrating oil and leave to soak for at least 24 hours. However, there is a good chance that you'll need access to an oxyacyetaline blow torch to heat the nuts up in order to release them.

I'd also recommend that you use a decent 6-point socket set that will hopefully prevent the nuts from rounding off.

Even having done all that, there is no guarantee that one of the cat studs won't shear off (this happened to me... argh!)

So whether you decide to do this yourself all depends on how much hastle you're willing to handle: often it is easier and usually very affordable to take it to a professional exhaust changing centre.
Rob Bell

What are you thinking about the GT centre pipes exhausts? I have found it to Brown and gammons site.

RE: The CAT bolt part.

I couldn't remove mine, and so I went to a local tyre/exhaust garage.
They used all their gas up burning 2 bolts away.
I then had to go to the nearest branch to get the other 4 done.

The next brach rather amusingly took one glance at what they had done.., called them cowboys and just put the pneumatic wheel nut wrench on the bolts.

The vibration releases the bolts after 20 or so secs!

SO lesson learnt..;
1) pneumatic tyre wrench (after wd40) is the best removal method I've seen, and
2) you can fit fitter.

Personal choice . I like M.S Indy but have the B&G Super Sports Exhaust has much more of a wail to it than a deep rumble. Buying over the net it's very hard to hear the sounds !!!

Am going Down to the "Blueflame" factory in the next few days to get a price for a "Bespoke" exhaust.

will keep you posted!.
