MG MGF Technical - Air Vents on Boot

Can anyone tell me how to fit s/s grilles on the air vents on the boot lid???

I can't tell you how to fit them but I don't think fitting them would be a good idea as engine bay ventilation is already restricted and fiting extra grilles would reduce cooling even further.

TJ,

I acquired a sheet of fine metal mesh from B&Q and cut out two panels 150mm X 300mm with heavy-duty scissors. It is a good idea to cut the corners off to avoid scratching yourself and the paintwork.

The panels are then fed into the boot lid from the underside and positioned behind the vent slots, pushing each panel outwards until “pinched” between the double skin of the boot lid.

The two panels should overlap slightly in the middle.

I then cut a 45mm length of 15mm diameter plastic water pipe (any similar tubing will do) and wedged it between the outer and inner boot lid skins to press the two panels firmly against the vent area.

A large rubber grommet (10mm thick) can be wedged between the overlapped panels and the inner skin, just at the lip of the boot, to complete the fixing process.

Despite spraying the mesh with laquer, they tarnished very quickly, so I had them powder coated.

The finished article looks unobtrusive from underneath – and stunning from the top!

Cheers

Having seen them in the flesh they look good - as does the rest of Sam's car. Go for it TJ

Just a thought. If you look at the area just under the engine cover there are some blanks pressed in the body. If these were removed I wonder how much extra cooling would be available. The only problem I see with cutting them out is a passage for water to the boot. Probably not worthwhile but a thought anyway.
