MG MGF Technical - Alarm system keeps going off!

My car alarm keeps going off - sometimes 3 or 4 times in 5 mins due to windy weathers, leaves falling etc etc. Does anyone know how too change the sensitivity?
Tina

The F does not have an ultrasonic sensor, it uses microwave pulses, so wind etc will not cause the alram to trigger.

Did you leave your mobile in the car? (this can cause the alarm to goo off every time it contacts the base station - which is errm every five or so minutes!)

or have you parked near the kitchen - microwave ovens will make the alarm go off.

but hopefully not every 5 mins!

Alternatly you may have a fault with one of the door locks/ boot wiring (which may be effected by the wind knocking the car around)

Hi Tina,

Lift the bonnet and check that button is okay - the screw can be known to come off and the button flops around.

Tina,
The expensive but maybe the best way is to have a Dealer connect it to Testbook (computerised diagnostic system) which will read the BITE Codes (Maintenance messages held by the system) which identify why the alarm is triggered.
If you have an aftermarket system fitted eg.Tracker then this can affect the MG-R system. My Alarm sounded every time 13 seconds after setting. The Fix finally (after 2 days with the Dealer and MG-R expert and a day with a dis-believing Tracker Dealer with the help of their Design Man) was to disconnect the battery which when reconnected re-booted the Systems.

had this on mine check bonnet switch @ spray with wd40 if light in bonnet goes out when you depress switch button switch is ok. mine went on for weeks going off intermittently (especially at 3am) i found the fault in osf door.if you remove trim there are some wires by the door catch that send signals back to alarm system i found the black wire where it goes into connection block was corroded so making connection intermittently . i soldered a new piece of wire in bypassing the block @ not had a problem since march. hope this helps as when it happened to me i nearly went insane (but thats part of the fun!!!!!)

I would agree with Will, check the boot light mine blew and then blew the fuse for the interior lights as well and this caused the alarm to go off at odd times. Why, who knows. but replacing the globe and the fuse fixed the problem. Good luck.

Well my car was parked out in the sun for about an hour yesterday, 35 degress top down and then the alarm started to go off, no breeze or people near by, it's got me stumped.

Tina..take it into Phoenix in Abington Ave and get them to check it out for you. They are very MG enthusiast friendly - even thought they are a main dealer!

andrew, sounds like dirty connections, the heat adds extra resistance - try breaking cthe connections and spraying contact cleaner into the switch and contacts
