MG MGF Technical - Alloy Question?

I have had my MFG VVC for about 5 moths now and i have been a little concerned on more than 1 occation when the back end ,ends up on the middle of the road. I have been looking for a new set of tyres for the back wheels to help this issue my question is three fold

1 although mine is a vvc it has 205/55/15 and 185/?/15 alloys .Has anyone seen this before?

2 i have been reading about trye do you recomend those good year f1 ones?

3 and lastly (thanks for your help) can i put 215 tyres on 205 rims???

Thanks for your help

paul

Those tyre sizes are as recommended by MGR for the VVC - many people have gone to 195, or even 205's on the front. I think the 185 is quite a rare size (trying to remember from the last time I bought...)

215's should fit the rear, although they'll over-hang the wheels even more.

Goodyear F1 and Bridgestone SO2's were always the tyre of choice around here: that has more recently settled to people seemingly just recommending the Bridges.

paul,

i thought originally the fronts are 185/55/15 & later its 195/50/15. the rear is 205/50/15.

goodyear f1s got some good reviews from this bbs. but in another thread some also recommend Bridgestone RE720s.

Paul, S03s are the business, I'm very happy with mine.

What are the circumstances when the back end goes?

I hope that you haven't got 205/55 rear tyres Paul - they are far too high a profile and will ruin the speedometer calibration - not to mention odd effects to handling...

Or Bridgestone RE720's, which are an excellent 'budget' alternative (though go for the 195/50/R15 on the front).

I take it you still have the 'slippery when wet' NTC's on the car at the moment? Someone in here said it all when they commented : "NTC's are at their best when on the side of boats".

This is a something I said last year, but it was not NCT it is Dunlop.

I feel it is now time to stop knocking NCT3 as they now have been obsolete for over a year.
