MG MGF Technical - Anti-Theft Alarm And Central Door Locking

I have a problem with my 1995 MGF. The synchronization has been lost in between my key fobs and the central locking, but I am completely unable to resync them. I have previously done this procedure successfully several times, but now there seems to be no response.

Additionally:
- if I try to open the door using the key, only the driver side door is unlocked, and
- there is no voltage coming to any of the wires going to the lock assembly in the door.

Any ideas what could be wrong? Which wire(s) going to the lock assembly should be powered?

have you checked the battery? Can you start the car?

Assuming you have checked the obvious battery voltages and I have no experience of similar problems in 130k early '96 F miles. There is a chap who posts as 'Technozen' on MGRover.org who specialises in alarm/immobilizer issues who is helpful and highly regarded - try him perhaps.

The battery voltage is OK. I cannot start the car because of the immobilizer. I have had this car for about 10 years and this is the worst problem I have ever had with it.

A quick search seems to show that the supply for the locks comes from the Alarm ECU, it would appear this in turn is feed from fuse 3 in the under bonnet fuse box, fuse 2 is also shown but it's not clear what it's for and fuse 14 in the passenger compartment fuse box. I would suggest checking the fuses first, failing that you may have a dead Alarm ECU, this would probably also account for the immobilizer failing to deactivate.

I would think that the Alarm ECU is powered since the alarms do work OK. I disconnected the horns since I could not switch the alarms off either. The fuses appear to be OK as well. For some reason I could not locate the Alarm ECU from the front console, as I tried to find out if the wires from the Alarm ECU to the lock or the connectors would be damaged.

The problem with the security system is that it's made to secure the car.
So it's not possible for anybody to modify or repair it.

If you can't find a gone fuse. The easiest solution for you without access to the required equipment would be to changing the whole system. Alarm ECU, Engine ECU and two fobs from someone reliable.

As said, take contact with Technozen. Register at forums.mg-rover.org and see

He's a good reliable guy and electronics engineer.
Alternative you can contact him here

The problem with the not working lock is another question. It's almost due to broken switches inside a lock or short circuits at the harness behind the radio slot.

See www.mgfcar.de/fuses and
www.mgfcar.de/alarm_blipper/ etc. for further information.

Hope you get it fixed.
