MG MGF Technical - battery

My wife has the habit of leaving the lights on the F on wherever she parks, thus making me (or someone else) going after her with the starter cables.

It has happened that the battery gets that empty that even the blipper doesn't work anymore.

Does anyone know whether this is harmful to the battery?

Cheers,

Dirk

I was under the impression that fully discharging the battery, impeded its performance to hold a charge.

Although i think you can get more expensive slow release batteries, that won't be effected by a complete discharge. (however think they are no use for the F)

simple answer, is i think ...yes.

Not really an answer, but isn't there a buzzer sounding when opening the door while the lights are still switched on.

If I recall correctly, an undercharged (or flat) battery is subject to suplhation. The 'active' lead becomes lead sulphate. Off course time is involved.

How long does the shopping take ?

The buzzer will not sound if the microswitches in the door locks have died (this was the first problem I noticed)

It is my experience that the majority of women don't do buzzers, alarms, warning lights - or any other electronic aid that helps keep a car going.

It is merely a box with a go and stop pedal that gets them to and from the shops.

IMHO of course!

Everybody down!, get on the floor!,

Ok it's clear now

Nothing to see here, move on, move on

Erik,

there's a buzzer in the car all right, working fine as well. Wife says she doesn't hear it, although other things (gossip being whispered somewhere) she hears fine... Sam's opninion must be correct then: see the shop, stall the car somewhere and get to the shop as quickly as possible, phone husband to come and fetch her with the starter cables...

Must be a female thing to do.
