MG MGF Technical - Best Head Gasket

Now that mine needs replacing;

a. What is the best replacement headgasket to get?
b. Where do I get it from? and ;
c. How much should it cost?

Cheers

The current specification Rover gasket is the best by many accounts - they've markedly improved the adhesion of the beading, and it has the best fire ring design.

Who is replacing the gasket on your car? Ensure that the head is in good condition, is true and is not porous. Also ensure that the liner heights are at the correct specification (critical for HG longevity) and that you use the metal head locator dowels.

Good luck

I am just about to purchace a trophy with very low
milleage,5000 miles, only to find that the head gasket has gone!

The dealer is quite prepared to have it fixed by an mg
dealer and gaurantee the work.

Once this has been fixed, is it likely to re occur?
Or was it a problem that once fixed tends to be ok?

Thank you. I appreciate your comments greatly.
The work is being done by Willmington Automotive. They are the guys who set up and serviced the cars for the MGF trophy competition over here I believe. Is there anybody else is Australia (Sydney) you may be able to suggest is worthwhile talking to about this and/or getting the work done?

Phil, I've replied to your post on this topic on the general board - but the summary is that assuming that the work has been carried out correctly, their shouldn't be an issue. If future reassurance is required, then the warranty issued by the AA is highly regarded.

Grant, I suspect that the guys who cared for motorsport teams in the MGF cup should be aware of the potential pitfalls and will do a good job. :o) Might be worth asking specifically about liner heights and head condition etc though.

I had my head gasket blow almost two years and 40,000km ago. It was replaced by a local MG Garage and (touch wood, which I am doing as I type) every thing has been OK since.
The car has had a much harder life since I have owned the car which has now travelled over 118,000km.

I have downloaded a copy of the checklist from your site. Armed with this I will be better prepared and will get them to do the works to the car with no expense spared. I spoke to Tony the guy doing the work and let him know I intend on taking plenty of pics and he was more than happy for me to do so.

Andrew
Thanks for the encouragement, lets hope I end up in the same boat.

If you can get some pix, I'd be interested in them as well Grant - would be nice to be able to see what's involved in HG replacement ;o)

Hey, is there an echo in here?

Based on what information??
