MG MGF Technical - Best oil to use

Just bought a Trophy and intend to keep it forever, hence want to start off right (only done 10k miles), can anybody recomend the best oil to use in the K series engine and if its worth using an additive such as Slick or similar.

Mobil 1 or Castrol Magnatec.

There's a recent thread on Slick 50 and also several websites which basically say don't touch it with a very long handled spanner!!!

Mobil 1 is best if there's no oil useage - you may find oil useage slightly higher on a full synthetic compared to a semi-synthetic.
At 10K miles, it's still a bit early to change to a full synthetic ?
Rather than bother with additives, consider changing oil every six months and make sure that the level isn't above max or even near the minimum. Good maintenance is better than any additive.

Steve makes a good point. Fully synthetic oil gives very little or no resistance to moving parts, but a new/low milage car needs moving parts to bed-in nicely. So never move to Full synthetic oil too early otherwise oil consumption will be high and you won't be doing the engine any favours either.

What colour is your Trophy? There are a few of us Trophy owners looking for someone with a Solar Red Trophy for a photo! We already have yellow, blue & anthracite - just need to complete the set!

Hi,

I was going to keep my F forever. That was before those stupid b*s*a*ds ran their stupid trolleys into the sides for amusement. Still..

Yes, Mobil 1 is a good oil, as are all the good-name high-end oils. It's a pity that Mobil hasn't released its SL spec oil in the UK yet, it's slipping behind Castrol in that respect. Mobil categorically deny that using Mobil 1 right from the start will cause any 'bedding-in' or other problems, it just may take a little longer. Just go ahead if that's the oil you want to use.

As for Slick 50 or other additives, I wouldn't touch them.

Regards, Kes.
