MG MGF Technical - Bonnet alignment?

I recently had the bonnet release cable replaced on my TF, but since then the left hand side of the bonnet sits about 3mm too high! I've tried adjusting with the rubber standoffs, but the one on the left is all the way down and the bonnet doesn't touch it. The right hand side is fine (level with the wing). If you press down on the left front corner it will go down further, so there's nothing physically stopping it - any ideas how I adjust it? How can working on the cable and catch, which are only in the middle of the bonnet, change the height of one side?!

Thanks,
Tim

Bonnet is slightly bent upward at one corner?

I can't see any damage to the panel and it wasn't like it before the cable replacement. Another thing I forgot to mention - when I pop the bonnet now it doesn't pop up fully, you have to get your fingers in the panel gap to lift it fully open. Is there a procedure for setting the striker position properly?

Cheers,

Yes the striker can be adjusted. Just slacken the lock"nut" (hexagonal cup-shaped thing) and adjust using a flat-blade screwdriver in the slot in the end of the striker. If you shorten the striker so that the centre of the bonnet is lowered, and the right hand side is touching the standoff, then it will have to pull the left hand side down.

The bonnet failing to pop up, could be the striker catching on the edge of the hole in the latch plate due to them not being properly aligned. Slacken off the bolts and see if the mounting holes are big enough to allow some adjustment.

Thanks. Is there any risk of adjusting it and not being able to open it again!?

When the bonnet is just resting on the centre catch, does the leading edge look parallel with the slam panel/bumper? You need to absolutely rule out the possibility that the bonnet panel has been bent, which isn't hard to do it seems.

Thanks for the help guys, sorted! I had a close look at the latch plate and it was too far to the right (as you look at the front of the car) so the bonnet was being pushed out of alignment as it closed. Moved the latch plate to the left by about 3-4mm and adjusted the rubber stops and it's fine now (well, as good as it's ever been!).

Thanks again,
