MG MGF Technical - Boot Lid Springs

Hi all
How can I adjust the spring tension on the boot lid, I have installed the electric boot release kit and the boot lid tends to drop down now. Later in the year I want to fit the rear spoiler this will make it even more heavy, had a look in my MGR workshop manual, no mention on adjustment unless i'm missing something in the pages.
Many thanks

Did the boot lid drop before the fitment of the electric release ?

I can see no reason why this should suddenly start to drop if not.

I can see no spring adjustment in my manual either, the only adjustment you have is the locking latch, which is not your problem of course.

You are right about the rear spoiler, my F spoiler makes the boot lid heavy, you need two hands to open it, or you run the risk of snapping the key if you open it with the pulling up action with the key still in the lock.

Hi Bn Howarth
I have the same problem after fitting the trophy spoiler . am looking into the problem as the boot lid becomes very heavy. Maybe the fitting of a gas strut. One of those jobs i need to sort out! Adrian is right about the key .....dont do it!get into the habit of using the finger pulls ....key can also slip out of the hole ......nearly scatched me boot!!!
let us know what yu find out !

jonathan

Adrian did you want a copy of the Lambusters video?

hi again just to show e-mail link

No adjustmets with them unfortunately.
Having a spoiler at the MGF is due to the principals *No pain, no gain* ;)
(This should be a joke. I hope it sounds like that)

BN,
If your bootlid solenoid weight is not 5kg :)...
Check whether one of the springs slipped off from the joints.
Means, do both springs work ?
Dieter

Jonathan,
You bet, you have mail !

Remove the boot hinge springs and have a local spring manufacturer make some more with a higher load rating...have a few extra ones made and then post them for sale on this BBS.

Hi all
Adrian
No the boot was ok until the solenoid was fitted.

JR
I think the gas strut may be the answer when the spoiler is fitted.

Dieter
the solenoid is the same one you have used, which I say many thanks for your fitting instructions on your Web pages, I have checked the springs, found no problems so it could be the gas strut idea.
I shall be back after my scotland tour in the "F" and do some searching.

Thanks guys

Seems strange that fitting the solenoid should cause the problem you have, is there a reason ?
