MG MGF Technical - Brake light switch from what?

I've finally got sick of resetting my Mk1 brake light switch, so need a Mk2...

Given that there's no MGR dealer within reach at lunchtime (but there is a scrapyard!): which (probably MGR) parts bin did they pull the Mk2 (non self adjusting switch) from? I take it that its not a "special" for the MGF...

Or alternatively, what else will "fit the bill"?

I've no idea where they sourced it but when I bought a Mk2 and saw that it didn't just clip in I put it in the toolbox and carried on adjusting the Mk1

It might be easier to change the Mk1 switch's plunger length by adding something to the end of it. With Mike Satur's brake pedal height adjustment kit for example, there is a cap that you place over the end of the switch plunger. Does the job.

By removing the amount of adjustment that the switch has [by lengthening it], one may rid the need to continuously adjust it...

Just a thought

Rob, exactly that worked for me.

someone here drilled a small hole and put in a self tapper which they could then adjust by doing up or undoing to get the required result. Be careful with any mods to the switch (including the official one) as you might depress the brake slightly.

I bought some small sticky rubber feet from maplins and put one of those on the end it worked a treat

My Mk1 switch has already got the "self tapping screw addition", and I think that its worn the next bit on the self-adjusting ratchet now.

In the short term I was going to undo the screw a bit to increase the displacement, but it'll happen again sooner or later, I'm sure...

I just happened to be going to the scrappie later in the week (they've got a "suitable" Rover 800 airbox donor in :-) ) and though if anyone knew where it had come from, I'd try to get a new B/L switch while I was about it...
