MG MGF Technical - Brake Pads sticking - TF160

Increasingly, the brake pads have been sticking on / to the discs, usually overnight. I'm assuming it's the rears although there are marks left on the front discs too. Anyone had similar experiences? Is this a known problem? Is it just a good clean out or is the problem more fundamantal; engineering tolerances for example?

Is a 12k mls TF160 with std (big) brakes.

Cheers

my 135 just had its firt service, included on invoice is "brake cleaner",perhaps its something that should be done more freqently than service intervals.I have noticed a thump?clunk? from my rears after overnight parking.keep meaning to try leaving it with handbrake off overnight to see if its that sticking, but keep forgetting!I dont have 4 pots, but i think rears are same as 160.regards.

My 1996 has always stuck first thing in the morning i guess like me you park outside and i have always put it down to a fine rust film causing adhesion.brake pads are meant to touch the discs at rest there position is where the disc pushes them.

IIRC from a previous thread that Mike replied to, the 4 pot calipers on the 160 need to be cleaned every 6 months or so. Unfortunately the man himself is in Beauly at the moment, so will probably be Tuesday before he'd be able to comment.

Anyone else got experience with these (or poss Trophy) brakes?

My original MGR brakes (2001 VVC) have always done this, and it has never seemed to cause a problem.

In spite of the phasing out of asbestos most mechanics will still use a proprietary can of brake cleaner to remove the general filth that builds up around calipers.

I use it on my bike on a regular basis as I can see the brakes without resorting to jacks, stands, wrenches etc. I spray the disks, pad surfaces and behind the pads onto the pistons to remove the dust etc

Get it in Halfords or most car goody shops - they even had it in Llandridrod Wells last week.

Thanks all. I spoke to the dealer this morning and all they're expecting to do is clean them and are not worried.
