Has anyone fitted replacement chrome/SS style air intake grilles? Also front intake and exhaust panel? Is this a DIY job or dealer/garage fit? What about door handles? Presume this means taking off inner door liner, with three screws visible around perimer? Any advice welcome |

>SS style air intake grilles? defo DIY, five minutes, a screwdriver and posibly some mastic. >Also front intake DIY, but a bit more tricky, 1 Hour, 15mm socket and extender, screwdriver, soft matting for placing the bumper (which you have to take off) >exhaust panel? Not Done >What about door handles? Waiting on return, yes removal of door liners 5 screws i think, then taking door lock apart still DIY as long as your competant. Will |

Oh and I assume your an F'er, TF side grills are aparently much harder. |

Bob, I removed the exisitng plastic coated grills and sprayed them with primer, chrome paint and then laquer. You need mastic (translucent bathroom sealant) to replace the side vent mesh, and the front grills fix on with a few self tapping screws. Be careful when removing the indicator units - there is a knack to it! Hey Presto! - Chrome grills for a few quid. I also made up some fine mesh grills for the boot lid vents. These look really good and do not seem to have any adverse effect on air flow through the engine compartment. I'm still toying with the idea of making up an exhaust grill. Don't think there is a ready made one on the market??? Going to go for chrome door handles, door miror covers and washer jets next. |

Thanks guys for all tips - but not an F'er, sorry I should have mentioned TF. As you mention Will, the side grills on TF look particularly inaccesible... Perhaps, MS will fit if I visit?? |

I got away without using mastic as i gentley prised the old grills around the old mastic, and the new grills thru it. >I'm still toying with the idea of making up an exhaust grill. >Don't think there is a ready made one on the market??? Someone had an exaust cover (which went over the exaust silencer, rather than over the hole in the bumper) at the Luton Meet, can't remember who though.... >Be careful when removing the indicator units - there is a knack to it! Yep, give us the nod when your closer to doing this and I'll give more in depth info. >I removed the exisitng plastic coated grills and sprayed them with primer, chrome paint and then laquer. Someone else did this (scarlet?) and said there was a problem with stone chips. anyhows the diamond mesh looks heaps better than the square mesh on the car as standard. |

Will, It was Stu who had the perforated heatshield cover. He got his with the exhaust from Motobuild though B&G do them too for 40 quid. Tim |

Hi Guys Not guilty !!! unless you fitted it last night when i was asleep !! Your right though, someone had one... Was it Andy's ? STU |

Guilty - bright perforated heatshield cover - mine came with my Phoenix exhaust, but they can be bought separately as I remember Kingsley buying one from B&G whilst at Silverstone. IIRC around 30-35 GBP. Dave |

Yep i'm the Guilty party. got mine at silverstone £35 iirc. fitting is easy(ish) make sure you have a 10mm spanner and socket wrench to hand. and you may need to bend it a bit to make it fit on the heat shield properly. it does finish off the back of the car amazingly, and realy complements the woven ss grilles on the rest of the car. |

Yep, the grill does not hide the exaust, it meerly covers it so you dont see the discolouration. Will |

>>What about door handles? Presume this means taking off inner door liner, with three screws visible around perimer?<< Replaced mine with the handles from an Abby (I had to stop the handle into my BRG surrounds): http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/exterior_handles.htm |

I had chrome grills on a previous, platinum F but they didn't show very well.Since I have a spare set of black grills, I was considering painting them red (car is platinum with red/black leather) Has anyone seen this done before? How did it look? Alan |

Any photos of the kingsley type cover? |

Siok did this with her car Alan - looked absolutely superb. Scarlet may have some pix in his archive that show the results? Definitely worth doing IMO - although rather than spraying, I'd urge you to get the grilles powder coated for better longevity. |

Thanks Rob, I'll ask Andy about pics. Alan |

Alan, Yup, Siok had red grills on her Platinum F (i know 'cos i sprayed them - and still have the flame red paint on the telegraph pole outside my house to prove it!) :-) There is one picture on my web site URL to follow... >> http://www.hometown.aol.com/ap1000000/frontbumper.htm << ----------- Regarding grills, i have fitted a rear grill to my F's rear bumper, again pictures on my website... >> http://www.hometown.aol.com/ap1000000/grills.htm << Also, if you follow the links at the bottom you will find full instructions on how to remove the front and rear bumpers. And... Instructions on how to remove the indicators can be found here... >> http://www.hometown.aol.com/ap1000000/indicato.htm << Have fun. :-) SF |
