MG MGF Technical - Burn Baby Burn

I have noticed that i get a smell from my car when i do two things - one, pull away from a junction quickly (higher revs 3000-4000 instead of about 2500; two, when i take it out for 'blast'

now, i assume that the smell is the clutch, because after my last blast i checked the tires and breaks for smells and could smell nothing. that said, when i went to get somethin out of the boot the smell was more noticably from the engine. what experience have people got? should it really smell when pulling away from a junction quickly? there was some talk about a quiet hill and reving till the smell appeared (something to do with giving the clutch a buff to get rid of oil and water) - well i wouldnt be able to do that because the smell appears pretty much straigh away!

(Quick question - anyone used a decent scratch remover for a BGR Pearlecent - someone said somethin about a stick or something that you can use.)
John

the stick !, i beleive comes from zymol , cann't be more specific

Re the burning:

I get the same with my MGF, especially after a bit of a push.
I think its quite normal; You'd probably find the same if you always stuck your head under the bonnet of a normal car after each drive..

maybe... wouldn't you?!
Neil H

Err, dont know. Dont get it with the fiesta, and didnt get it with the two autos i previously owned, but then again you wouldnt expect to.
John

Yup, agree with Neil. I get a smell from the boot after either a long haul or a bit of a rip down to the local shop. Presuming it's normal (though it's that rationalisation you do with an F to blind yourself that something else might be going awry).

Mind you, when was the last time you popped the bonnet on a FWD after a long drive?

Re: the zymol stick... do they produce a five foot wide one? Really natty paintwork ;-(

3000-4000 rpm for taking off ...are you nuts or just stupid ???
Dick Pullar

must be stupid - everyone knows that a VVC launches best with between 5000 - 6000 dialled in first and then a "light switch" type clutch action.

That really gets the smell going in the engine bay.

My bike launches best with about 7000 dialled in leaving just another 3000 to change up point.

Have you ever tried pulling on to the A127 where there is NO runway and 70 ~ 80 MPH XR3i's and Silver Focus's baring down on you!?!?!

When i lightly depress the acc. pedal the car doesnt seem to go any lower than 2500 (but i have spoken about my acc. pedal before)
