MG MGF Technical - Cam belt

Having recently purchased a 1998 MGF with 67k on the clock, I was wondering if it is due for a change of cam belt - the manual states change at 96k but other people have told me it must be done at 60k
I have checked with the previous owner who tells me the work has not yet been carried out - so is it advisable as a matter of urgency?
Cheers

Yes you should change the cambelt if that is mileage on your clock and not kilometres. It should be changed at 60 000 miles so all I can think is that the manual is stating 96 000 kilometres. Is your car an import?

'Or at 5 Years, whichever comes First'.
The belt is rubber and deteriorates with age regardless of mileage.
You need it changed, like yesterday !!

As per Neil, cambelts are miles and/or age, whichever comes first. The intervals have changed slightly over the model life. See Tony's excellent site for loads of F tips and especially the 'maintenance Check Sheets' section.
