the cam belt should be changed at 60000 or a 4 years as stated on the rover mg guide just had mine done leaking waterpump so thought have the cam belt change and alternator.
have a look at the back make sure you have no leaks round the cambelt cover which will be on the drivers side right.

>>the cam belt should be changed at 60000 or a 4 years as stated on the rover mg guide<<

Depends on the year of the car. Pre MY2000 MGFs had service intervals of 12,000 miles so big service was 60,000 miles or 5 years whichever comes first. MY2000 Fs and TFs have service intervals of 15,000 miles so according to the dealers the cam belt requires to be changed at 60,000 miles or 4 years whichever comes first. Personally, I'm not aware of any changes to the engine which requires the belt to be changed a year earlier. Sounds like a con to me just to get money out of people.

Just had the first belt changed on my 1998 MGF which has done 67,000 The car seems to run better and at least I have peace of mind now, despite being £200 worse off!!

".. The car seems to run better.. " A slack or worn belt will alter the cam timing and performance can drop off. Fitting a new belt can restore the performance again.I prefer to change belts sooner rather than later especially is the car is subject to track days 8-0
