Hi Just changed Head gasket & want to check my gear cam gear wheels are correctley positioned on camshafts

The left hand wheel alligns with pin on camhaft (IN)on wheel

The Right hand (exhaust side) alligns with pin on cam (EX)on wheel. The way the cam gear wheel is moulded it looks like it could go out of step although it will only allign in one place many thanks for any help

And torque setting 65Nm for M10 ?

Thanks David

please can anyone help, Engine won't fire cant find any info on wheel to camshaft. have i accidently swapped wheels ?. What concerned me was how the wheels locate on diffrent locations in relation to the pin on the camshaft :(

You have them bolted on correctly, both are identical so having the pin through the right hole is critical. Once they're on as long as they're aligned and timed up correctly then you have done everything right.
Not sure why it's not starting - check all connections to coils, sensors etc then you'll have to run through checks for spark, fuel etc.
Hope this helps.

180 deg out?

i think you need to recheck your timing marks if you look at the pulleys they have 2 alignment marks on you need to set the inlet pulley so the mark labelled exhaust is at the 3oclock position and the exhaust pulley mark labelled exhaust also should be at the 3 oclock position this will make the two marks in the middle of the two pulleys show exhaust/inlet facing each other. lastly you need to check the mark on the crankshaft pulley best seen with drive belt pulley removed two dots located at approx 1 oclock position aligned with a line on backplate hope this helps

Hi,ALL Getting a bit confused.

The MG ROVER manual i have shows INLET @ 3 o'clock for both cam wheels thus INLET><EXHAUST ? i think i may be 180 out as rotor arm wasnt at 1 @ TDC.

been getting help from:

http://forums.mg-rover.org/showthread.php?t=87729

My cam wheels are on correct from the pics thanks for your help :) its the 1st time ive done a HGF on a twin cam engne & hopefully the last..........

INLET should be pointing towards 9 o'clock on both which as far as I can remember means they will be written upside down.

Dave, Dr Dave's thread is correct - although the picture (http://forums.mg-rover.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=21283&d=1110129010) is perhaps a little misleading?
Rob Bell

The picture is correct,i.e. inlet cam (left wheel) is at 3 o clock and exhaust cam wheel is at 9 oclock.
The crank wheel mark at 1 o clock on the cam cover case.Unless you have turned the crank before putting the belt on or the cams in then there is another reason for the engine not starting.

Thanks for all the good advice crank was 180 Deg out :) Took longer then i imagined mainly due to access !
